Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate the ones we love. Whether you’re celebrating a partner, family, or close friends, these easy, homemade Valentine’s treats are a fun and meaningful way to share something special. If you are single this Valentine’s Day, celebrate your friendships with one of these simple ideas.
Easy Homemade Valentine’s Treats Anyone Can Make
You don’t have to be a baker to create a beautiful, festive dessert. These Valentine’s treats are beginner-friendly, affordable, and perfect for adults or kids to help with. I’ll lead you through the process step by step.
Start by heading to the baking aisle of your grocery store. Choose a boxed cake mix, icing in a round can, red and white icing in small squeeze tubes, and any decorative toppings that catch your eye. Pick paper cupcake liners that match your pan — either a 6-cup or 12-cup pan works well.
Substitutions for Special Dietary Needs:
If you are gluten intolerant you can buy gluten free flour. Follow the directions on the package.
If you have blood sugar issues, buy Monks Fruit, available in granulated, powdered or liquid form in natural grocery stores (like Whole Foods), in the baking aisle of some conventional grocery stores (call first), and online. Use the same amount of Monk Fruit as you would have used cane sugar.
What You’ll Need to Get Started
Back at home, set up a simple workspace in your kitchen with everything you bought at the store. Get out your mixer and put on an apron. If you’re anything like me, there may be chocolate everywhere — and that’s part of the fun! Place the cupcake liners into the cupcake pan and set aside.
Simple Steps for Baking the Cupcakes
Mix the cake ingredients in a large bowl using your mixer, following the directions on the box. Carefully pour about ¾ of the batter into each liner and bake as directed. Test for doneness with a toothpick — if it comes out dry and doesn’t stick, they’re done. Set the pan on the counter or table to cool. I like to gently run a butter knife between the pan and the liner to prevent sticking.
Decorating Your Valentine’s Cupcakes
Now let’s get creative! I like to keep the cupcake and liner in the pan for easier handling. If you have a turntable, even better. One of the most enjoyable parts for me is decorating each cupcake differently.
Start by spreading icing over each cupcake so the decorations will stay in place. Sprinkle on the decorations you bought at the store. Write designs using the squeeze tubes. Gently push tiny candies into the tops of other cupcakes. No two need to look the same — that’s what makes them special.
Make It Fun — Especially for Kids
This can be a wonderful experience for a child, too — with an apron, of course! Have fun, and don’t forget to take pictures of your child’s face and hands covered in chocolate. These moments become memories. Bonding time matters.
Quick Valentine Gift Ideas (No Baking Required)
In a hurry? You still have great options. Buy a red mug and fill it with nuts or candies, wrap it in clear cellophane, tie with ribbon, and deliver. Pick up a cookie tin and fill it with store-bought chocolate cookies, candy, or nuts. Wrap it in Valentine’s paper and deliver. The sky really is the limit when it comes to easy Valentine’s gift ideas.
I have gone a little silly over these cute and adorable mini treats —
and I hope you enjoy them too.
