More Holiday Gifts from Your Kitchen

By Joy Lasseter, Ph.D., Nutritionist — December 2025

Home-baked holiday gifts are such a treasure. We often remember them long after the delicious goodies have been enjoyed. I like to include the recipe in my goody packages so recipients can recreate their favorites at home.

Wide, horizontal photo-realistic image of a festive holiday kitchen scene. A wooden table is filled with homemade treats: fudge squares, chocolate cupcakes with simple frosting, and no-bake cookies on a decorative plate. Soft warm holiday décor in the background—string lights, greenery, and cinnamon sticks. Cozy, clean, professionally lit, with a warm inviting color palette. No text.

Have you seen the small decorative cardboard boxes you can bake in? These specialty oven-safe baking boxes allow you to pour the batter directly into the container and bake it in the oven. When done, let the treat cool completely, then wrap in plastic and tie with festive ribbons. They work especially well for miniature gingerbread loaves or banana bread.

If you prefer more widely available and easy-to-find options, you can package your homemade treats in decorative tins, bakery boxes, or holiday-themed plates. When gifting brownies, fudge, or loaf cakes in a tin or box, line the container with parchment paper or wax paper first to keep everything neat and prevent sticking. After placing the treats inside, cover with another small piece of parchment before closing the tin or box securely.

If you’re arranging cookies on a decorative plate, wrap the plate tightly in clear plastic wrap to keep them fresh. Adding a simple ribbon or festive bow makes it gift-ready. You can also separate layers of treats with small parchment squares if you are packaging more than one item together.

To prevent your gift from spoiling, tell the recipient when you’re arriving and make sure they are home. Ask them to refrigerate the treats right away. These gifts are baked the same day, contain no preservatives, and should not be left at room temperature.
